European Nations Cup - 1960 held in France

European Nations Cup - Held in France - 1960 Winners USSR

We must thank Henri Delaunay, the secretary of the French Football Federation for the birth of the European Nations' Cup in 1960.  Later this famous football competition became known as the European Championship.

Spain scratched due to civil unrest. General Franco personally scratched the team.  Well, I will rephrase that ' Colman Balls' .  The Spanish leader ordered that the team withdraw from the 1960 Nations cup Semi-Final.  Bizarrely, Spain were allowed to host the next Championships in 1964.

The first shall be last, and the last shall be first.  The two finalists were the teams who were alphabetically last in the listings.

Topscorer overall: Fontaine (Fra) 6 goals
Topscorers final tournament: No-one scored more than 2 goals.
