Will is a genius at ferreting out proper boozers.  If the Duke of Buckingham get's Will's seal of approval, then it's worth a visit.  If Will drinks there, the Duke of Buckingham is probably the best pub in Portsmouth.  I know Will of old and he loves pubs where people know each other, places where you get action, a pub where you can have a nice drink in a pleasant atmosphere.

Staff

The Duke of Buckingham has seen changes in 2010. This family owned and run establishment is presently a Bar – Restaurant – Bed and Breakfast with comfortable and varied accommodation to suit all requirements; it also boasts free Wi-Fi.

In February the kitchens were modernised and updated; Paul Pascoe, long time and revered Chef, retired. Since then the menu has been developed and contains many delicious choices and offers for the discerning visitor. Breakfasts are popular, as are the special lunches, dinners and meal deals. Fresh ingredients are sourced locally. Head Chef, Dan Milsom and his kitchen team are proud of their growing reputation in the area for fine dining.

Events

A small and intimate private function area is available for meetings or private parties.

Sarah Templeton continues to lead her team of talented, friendly and caring staff who are ready to serve your needs and requirements. Many of the staff have been at the Duke of Buckingham for a considerable time and are delighted to be part of its development and excellent reputation.

Occasions such as Valentine's Day; Mothering Sunday and Christmas are still catered for with special menus. The weekly meat raffle is popular and the proceeds support local charities as do other regular functions.

The Duke of Buckingham is minutes from the beach, the bustling harbour, Portsmouth and Southsea city centres, the Gunwharf Quays waterfront and the Royal Naval Dockyard where HMS Victory, HMS Warrior, the Mary Rose and its museum can be visited. The Royal Marines museum is also within easy reach.

This traditional pub, with its real ales and varied wines is certainly worth a visit.

You will find The Duke of Buckingham in Old Portsmouth, it is in the High Street and close to all the action.  The Duke of Buckingham also offers Bed and Breakfast, and not just for regulars who cannot make it home!

Will did not need to tell me, I knew that he would be found mostly in the bar.
