History of Pavement Art

Pavement art probably started in Italy.  There were probably artists even before Leonardo da Vinci's time (1475) who chalked pavements.  The genre has persisted until today where every month there seems to be an exhibition somewhere in the world.  Many historians say that you can trace pavement art right back to cave paintings 40,000 years ago.  It all depends how you define 'Pavement'.
