Pictures of SunriseNothing is more beautiful than the loveliness of the woods before sunrise. George Washington Carver
∇Watery Winter Sunrise
This photo shows a light pillar and was taken by Daniel Ruggiero. The morning's frigid temperatures helped support the light refracting/reflecting ice crystals which produce the light 'pillar' effect in the middle of the photo. This picture of Llandaff Cathedral in Cardiff, Wales was taken by Mike Roberts while walking through Hailey Park. The frost is a give-away that this is a picture of sunrise and not sunset. ¤Evocative Sunrise
This evocative picture of sunrise at Bullinghope, near Hereford, England, was taken by John Morris, professional photographer, from Wigan, Manchester, England. John told Will and Guy that to enable him to capture the sunrise he had to wait in the freezing cold field for the right moment. It was worth it, John. A sunset (Sundown): Occurs when the top of the sun just disappears below the sea-level horizon. Dusk: The sun has set, the sky is darkening, but there is still some blue in the heavens. Twilight: A time of day when there is light in the sky, but the sun is not yet visible. Thus it could refer to the time just before sunrise, or just after sunset. Furthermore, there are three 'grades' twilight. Civil Twilight: The sun is no more than 6 degrees below the horizon at either sunrise or sunset. You can still see the horizon, yet should be able to make out the brightest stars, especially if there is no moonlight. One still should be able to carry on ordinary outdoor activities. Nautical Twilight: Now the sun is between 6 and 12 degrees below the horizon at either sunrise or sunset. You cannot make out the horizon. You need extra light for ordinary outdoor activities. Astronomical Twilight: This is dark; the sun is between 12 and 18 degrees below the horizon at either sunrise or sunset. Under ideal conditions you should detect faint sky illumination, a sense that dawn is near. Sunset Calendars Capture the Sun
Cold Sunrise at the North PoleDid You Know?♪Residents of a Florida retirement community named Sunset changed the
name of their town because they found it too depressing. They re-named
the place: Sunrise. You couldn't make it up say Will and Guy. The Tequila Sunrise is a cocktail drink made in two different ways. Traditionally it would include tequila, crème de cassis, lime juice and soda. Latterly it contains tequila, orange juice and grenadine. The concoction allegedly first appeared at the Arizona Biltmore Phoenix, and is so named because the drink imitates a sunrise as the denser ingredients settle. Due to Earth's axial tilt, the direction of sunset is always to the northwest from the March equinox to the September equinox and to the southwest from the September equinox to the March equinox.
